Program:
One of the more contentious issues we face is the question of secure international borders, and one proposed means to increase border security is through new developments in science and technology. As quickly as we see proposals to apply much of this new technology, even more sophisticated technology is under development. The goal of this forum will be to better understand the nature of this technology, but to also to help us articulate the problems that we are attempting to solve with this technology.
Technology on the Border
  • We can then ask questions such as can it work?
  • What benefits and harms can we anticipate?  Is it the best solution?
The panelists include:
• René Zenteno, UCSD Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies
• Chris Aldridge, NLECTC-Border Research and Technology Center
• Andrea Guerrero, ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties
