Dena Plemmons, Ph.D.

Dr. Plemmons holds a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology. Her research and teaching focus includes looking at the ethical implications of different choices/decisions made in the conduct of science, considered broadly. She is a member of the Research Ethics Program at UC San Diego, where she teaches courses in scientific integrity and research ethics. Dr. Plemmons also works with San Diego State University's Division of Research Affairs on initiatives to promote ethical and responsible conduct in research and scholarship; she presently teaches SDSU’s interdisciplinary course in Responsible Conduct of Research and is also coordinating the SDSU Research Ethics Seminar Series. She is a research affiliate with the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center, where she trains interns from the Graduate School of Public Health at SDSU in qualitative methods in mental health services research. Professor Plemmons currently serves as the acting Chair of the Committee on Ethics of the American Anthropological Association.
Professor Plemmons’ current research focuses on issues in research ethics education, and she is also conducting research looking at how IRBs make decisions about protocols which come to them for approval. |
